If you owned a radio or a phonograph during the last quarter of the 20th century, you know the monstrous pocket of NYC bass legend Gordon Edwards. From Paul Simon to Grover Washington Jr. to Aretha Franklin and more names than I could list here, to his own work as the leader of Stuff (a “summit meeting” of Gotham’s baddest players), Gordon’s bass is the sound of the NYC that I grew up in, and an essential strand in the DNA of American popular music. Gordon’s annual birthday celebration is always a tremendous gathering of his musical colleagues and comrades, and I am honored to be among the “Stuffies” joining the party this year!
